Baytree Cottage
A contemporary timber-framed extension to a historic cottage in Worcestershire. Listed Building Consent was granted for the project in 2024, with repairs to the cottage carried out shortly afterwards, the extension works will commence in 2027.
Baytree Cottage is a Grade II Listed Building, along with neighbouring Corner Cottage. The pair of C17 timber framed cottages read as a single structure atop a sandstone plinth. Along with other historic houses, Baytree and Corner cottage form the edge of a loosely defined courtyard.
The extension has been designed to sit comfortably within this existing courtyard arrangement. The connection between the extension and Baytree Cottage has been carefully considered to minimise the visual and material impact on the historic structure. Theoretically, the proposed structure could be removed and Baytree Cottage would be left as it currently exists. Formally and materially, the extension will appear as a younger sibling of the historic building.
