A split-level dwelling constructed from within a disused swimming pool. A home in which the client could live alone, with space to host her family and a constant connection to her well tended garden and the fields of rural Warwickshire beyond.
The client's aim was to create a home for herself with a close connection to the garden.
The building was a recent addition to a historic farm courtyard. It faces away from the courtyard, out into the Warwickshire countryside.
Originally a swimming pool building, the double-height space presented an opportunity for abundant natural light and living across a number of different levels.
A mezzanine is inserted into the swimming pool, defining space below, above and around.
Resulting in several distinct rooms within one large space, each open and connected to each other.
The larch mezzanine structure emerges from the base of the old swimming pool. It creates a more sheltered room beneath, offering some privacy for guests.
Wherever you are in the house, there is a direct view to the garden.
At the southern end of the building, the roof reduces to a single storey, creating a more intimate space for the living room.
The bathroom is at the other end, up near the roof, with a skylight directly over the bath.
