Watershed Planters
A collection of planters and benches for the Watershed on the Bristol Harbourside. Constructed using recycled timber, the benches provide much needed seating in this public place.
The project was conceived by Watershed as a pilot project exploring a regenerative approach to reinvigorating this are of Bristol harbourside. The introduction of a series of planters and benches would provide a unexpected moment of green-space, an invitation to pause.
In keeping with the Watershed's ambitions, the planters were designed as a low-impact and inventive intervention. Reclaimed pallet wood forms the planter boxes with planks of locally felled sycamore spanning between to create seating, all of this timber supplied by the Bristol Wood Recycling Project. Treatment and machining of the materials is minimised and connections are made using stainless steel bolts, enabling adaption and full deconstruction if required in future.
This was a collaborative design and build project under the banner of Culture of Building, a collective of five architectural practitioners with shared sensibilities based in Bristol. The founding members of Culture of Building are: Akshara Pulpa; Jed Baron (Studio Fieldwork); Rory Corr and Brendan Higgins (OCH) and Richard O’Hanlon (Richard O’Hanlon Studio).
