Wick Road
A modest rear addition to a Victorian Terrace in Brislington, Bristol. The project aimed to create new living space that enjoyed abundant day light and a calming connection to the garden.
A defining aspect of the project is the use of low carbon materials, sympathetic to those used to build the original house.
A simple volume is added to the rear service wing, enclosing a small courtyard providing light to the existing garden facing rooms. Within the new addition, a kitchen and dining space enjoys light from many directions. Windows into the courtyard and garden define an area for the dining table, with glazed doors and roof window lighting the kitchen workspace.
The project was an investigation into making a respectful domestic extension using bio-based and natural materials. The resulting rooms are light and well-proportioned and a fitting extension to the original Victorian house.
